JOB SUMMARY
Information Technology (IT) Support Specialist maintains all aspects of SCCC’s Information Technology infrastructure. This includes maintaining networks and security programs and systems. The IT Support Specialist manages the upgrade and installation of new hardware and software, performs help desk support to all staff to address any problems with computer systems, and assesses potential threats to our network and implements appropriate strategies to mitigate these risks. The IT Support Specialist will develop and implement an organization-wide IT maintenance and support policy program. This position will require the successful candidate to communicate and support employees with various degrees of IT experience/knowledge.
KEY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
• Provide support to staff and clients experiencing computer and technology problems, both in-office and working remotely
• Maintain, troubleshoot, repair, and administer local area networks (LANs), computer workstations, connections to the Internet, and peripheral equipment
• Evaluate and install computer hardware, networking software, operating system software, and other software applications
• Update and maintain IT inventory for the organization
• Maintain organizational IT security systems with assistance from Third Party Service Providers and internal staff.
• Administer cloud-based systems to support organizational objectives
• Perform preventive maintenance of hardware and software (computers, printers, photocopiers, video equipment)
• Manage data backup and retrieval processes
• Provide support to allow for high-functioning video conferencing meetings/workshops
• Locate and recommend efficiencies to the current IT infrastructure
• Prepare training manuals and FAQ materials for easy-access end-user guidance.
• Communicate and liaise with IT vendors to obtain the best value solutions to meet organizational needs
• Comply with the SCCC’s vision, values, policies, and procedures
QUALIFICATIONS
EDUCATION
• University degree or College diploma in a related discipline (e.g., Information Technology, Computer Science, Management Information Systems, or other similar diploma/degree programs)
KNOWLEDGE/EXPERIENCE
• Effective language and strong verbal and written communication skills
• Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills; Strong work ethic and attention to detail
• Time management and organizational skills
• Excellent knowledge of technical management, information analysis, and computer hardware/software systems, including Active Directory, Microsoft 365, and other Microsoft application servers.
• Expertise in Cloud Computing technologies, e.g., Azure, SharePoint
• Knowledge of computer network design principles, security systems, backup systems, etc.
• Knowledge of the latest technology and advancements for both hardware and software
• Experience and understanding of desktop and server virtualization environments
• Knowledge of Wireless technologies, firewalls, and VPNs
• Excellent troubleshooting skills and the ability to work under pressure
• Awareness of and respect for cultural diversity
• Bilingualism is an asset
OTHER
• Satisfactory Criminal Record Check, including Vulnerable Sector Check
• Valid Ontario Class G driver’s license and clean driving record are required
• Ability to work outside of regular business hours when required
• Reside, and be legally entitled to work in Canada
All new employees shall be fully vaccinated against COVID 19-prior to their start date and must also provide proof of vaccination.
