Hot Take: Your Fashion & Beauty Refresher For The Week Of 18/07/22

Linda Evangelista marks her return to modelling with Fendi

It seems the demand for 90s supermodels is still high in 2022, and after a terrible experience last year with a botched cosmetic CoolSculpting procedure that left her body “brutally disfigured”, Linda Evangelista is sowing the seeds for a remarkable return to form this year. Over the weekend, the 57-year-old shared a photo of herself modelling for Fendi to mark 25 years of its iconic Fendi Baguette handbag, the campaign a pre-cursor to a show later this year in September. Photographed by long-time collaborator Steven Meisel, the teaser campaign sees Evangelista styled in the excessive handwriting of French super-stylist Carlyne Cerf de Dudzeele with makeup by Pat McGrath and hair by Guido Palau. Checks release a new collaboration with local artist Claudia Kogachi

Local streetwear favourite Checks has teamed up with local artist Claudia Kogachi on a new capsule collection featuring Kogachi’s irreverent artwork.

Delivering the first of its three-part collaboration with the Tāmaki Makaurau-based painter, Kogachi’s autobiographical works are rendered on a T-shirt, hoodie and a hero piece — a mohair-blend jumper with intarsia knitted original artwork. It’s another natural segue for Kogachi who is a firm fashion favourite, modelling for Ruby in 2021.

Anthony Vaccarello presents his dreamy menswear show in Marrakech

The mystique of Marrakech continues to inspire fashion designers, and no other has helped immortalise that connection than the late Yves Saint Laurent who lived between Paris and a home in Marrakech in 1966 with his then-partner Pierre Bergé. The city became the designer’s intimate refuge in contrast to his busy Parisian work schedule, so this past weekend it made sense for the house’s present-day creative director Anthony Vaccarello to host his menswear collection for spring/summer 2023 there.

Sharp tailoring, wide-leg trousers and typically sensual torso-revealing shirts celebrate the mix of Parisian glamour and nonchalance of Morrocco the brand has become synonymous with. Inspired by Paul Bowles’ 1949 novel The Sheltering Sky, Vaccarello, in collaboration with the London-based artist and stage designer Es Devlin, created a breath-taking backdrop in the middle of the Agafay desert.

Celebrities who attended included Euphoria star Dominic Fike, Laura Harrier, Luka Sabbat, and long-time Saint Laurent muse and acting legend Catherine Deneuve.

My Chemical Romance releases its third makeup collaboration with HipDot

Bust out the black eyeliner and re-instate your side fringe — emo rock band My Chemical Romance has released its third makeup collaboration with eccentric beauty brand HipDot. The first two MCR x HipDot collaborations sold out within a minute (no exaggeration) so if you’re keen to get your fishnet-clad mitts on the newest The Black Parade collection — you’d better be quick. Inspired by the band’s most iconic album of the same name, the collection extends to an eyeshadow palette housed in a CD case (oh, the nostalgia!), white body paint and a set of three matte lipsticks — all sure to help you cement your place as a member of the MCR Parade.

Caroline Hirons launches a new app which aims to demystify skincare

Self-proclaimed skincare agony aunt Caroline Hirons has revealed a new app which promises to give users access to her no-BS, science-backed skincare advice in their back pockets. The new Skin Rocks app, which has already amassed 30,000 downloads in the four days since its launch, is a glossary of sorts, with the goal being to have every skincare product under the sun listed on the app to make shopping for skincare simple. Available free for both Apple and Android smartphone users from the App store

Actor Idris Elba and wife Sabrina launch genderless skincare line S’able Labs

It’s the celebrity skincare line we never knew we needed  and turns out the founders never set to launch one, either. Husband-and-wife duo Idris and Sabrina Elba told Glossy.co they were acutely aware that the world didn’t need another celebrity skincare line, but rather the idea for their own line came after the pair launched an Instagram Live series during the pandemic, called Together Tuesdays. The launch of S’able Labs’ three genderless skincare products was flanked by The Hub by S’able Labs, a content site which shares articles exploring the many facets of coupledom. Each product highlights East African ingredients like qasil, baobab and black seed.
